Serena Smith

Born in London in 1960, Serena Smith's formative years after graduation were spent at the Curwen Studio, where she trained as a lithographer. In her subsequent practice as artist, technical consultant, educator, and mentor, she continues to work with fellow artists alongside her own studio practice.  In response to the perpetual interplay between lived experience, and reflective observation, her ideas are developed through drawing, printmaking and writing. Outcomes from these processes, shaped by systematic constraints and serendipity, knowingly play with a lyrical ambiguity that spills out from the structures of communication. A concern with language, acts of inscription, and technology, that emanates from her lithography practice, is the focus for ongoing doctoral research.  Serena’s work has been selected for numerous exhibitions both in the UK and internationally and she has been the recipient of several prizes and awards. Her stone lithographs are held in a number of private and public collections including the China Printmaking Museum, Nottingham University, and the British Museum.
