Designed to
accommodate six centrefold images, the letterpress text relates to both the
production of a codex book work - from the skinning of an animal to the
stitching and binding - and the visceral experience of living within skin. The
‘skin’ depicted in the images, is that of tree bark from local woodland. Whilst the work is intentionally seductive, underwriting the aesthetic
sensibility, is a vulnerability to exposure ‘under the sun’. Embedded in the
work are the drawn gestures from an inscribing hand that has the capacity to
both stroke this skin and cut through its fragile membrane. There is both
light and darkness under this sun
